Interview of the Disturbed Ones

I'm interested to know...What turned you on to rock music? Was it a specific song? Did your parents play it? What was the first song that burned itself into you and kept you listening? What did you listen to before that?

When you listen to the music you love, how do you feel? I know how it makes me feel. If I'm driving, I move through a 25 mph zone going almost 55, and climbing.

How has music saved you? How has it changed you or made you into who you are today?

well...i can tell you when i got into metal....i was 11 years old and the first metal song i ever heard was "master of puppets" (also the first metal album i've ever owned...my mother wasn't all that crazy about getting it for me but she's a good sport)...that song knocked me over, i loved the sound and i was hooked on the entire genre....(some things never change...lol)...before that well i liked a couple of the pop bands of that day bands like duran duran, tears for fears and depeche mode...(i grew up in the 80's)...but i also loved the scorpions and quiet riot....i always leaned heavy.....my grandmother was trying to get me into the whole opera scene ...she's an opera singer and gave me most of my training but i had other ideas ...before the band that i'm in now i was in a danzig cover band....i loved the reaction of the metal crowd and i couldn't get enough of metal....i think she has finally come to terms w/ the musical path i've decided to take......

as for how music makes me feel?.......many different things.....no other band has touched me as deeply as disturbed.....i can't even pinpoint what it is either....almost i weird connection w/ these 4 people i barely know...no matter what mood i'm in , it all calls for their music.....they made me believe that music w/ substance was still alive.....i can never thank them enough.

Metallica

Submitted by Firesblood on Tue, 07/01/2008 - 8:50am.

Oh yeah. Metallica rocks my world. Master of Puppets kicked Ass, I loved Garage Inc., Their S&M Concert CD is one of my favorites. As far as my favorite songs of Metallica: Orion, Call of Ktulu, Am I Evil, Master of Puppets, For whom the Bell Tolls, Fade To Black, One, Enter Sandman, Sad but True, So What, The Unforgiven part 2, Seek and Destroy, The House that Jack Built, Mama Said, Until It Sleeps, Hero of the Day, King Nothing, Battery, Sanitarium (welcome home), Green Hell, Prince Charming, No Leaf Clover, and last but not least, lol, 'Little Boy You're Going To Hell' off of the Southpark Movie soundtrack. -reads the list above- I love Metallica. Funny thing, is that those are just the songs I absolutely love. There are still several more.

And due to the fact that I practically grew up around seven ICP Juggalos (my best friends were all guys; Girls didn't like me, and I didn't like them), I also have a good few favorite ICP songs.

I remember the Beatles as a young girl, and then I got surrounded by a bunch of music all at the same time... AC/DC from my older cuz, Lynyrd Skynyrd from my friends stoner brother, Steely Dan from a teacher, and Kiss from my peers. It's always influenced me in most of my work as an artist. I think they compliment each other so well, at least in me they do. I'm a very visual person, so I C the music and it allowes me to give it shape and form.

wow...someone's dating herself...hmmm, for me, i listened to mainly light rock as a kid. POD, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and others got me towards a path toward heavier stuff, along with Korn and many others. It was basically a gradual progression towards the music i listen to now. I still listen to light stuff such as Jars of Clay, Coldplay, etc

I love Ashes Divide, along with APC and Tool. All bands touched by at least one Maynard haha and Billy Howerdel (in some function)

Submitted by Firesblood on Tue, 06/24/2008 - 9:43pm.

Maynard's voice is so soothing to me. I love APC and Tool. I used to listen to them on repeat when I was going to sleep. Also like The Cure. NIN is another favorite. Gods, there are so many. I don't even have a favorite band. They are all my favorites. My tastes in music are wide-ranged in the extreme. I believe that every genre has something to offer, even if it's only a single song.

I haven't heard 'Drilled A Wire Through My Cheek', but I've heard most of Blue October's other songs. I have most of their songs.

Lets see, other top favorites include Nightwish and Lacuna Coil, though I just discovered Lacuna Coil probebly a month ago.

If you like APC and Tool check out ASHES dIVIDE. Billy Howerdel is freaking incredible and his vocals are quite soothing too. He plays pretty much everything, keyboard, bass, guitar, does the vocals, writes and i think helps produce. Maynard's son plays drums. Very great stuff. Listen to The Stone and Sword. Both songs are quite amazing, my faves.

You like Seether right? Their newest CD is amazing!!! love the song No Jesus Christ, but the whole CD is infuckingcredible. Also, Shinedown, haven't gotten the new CD yet, but their other 2 CDs which i have are all amazing. the new CD seems slightly heavier, but goddamn i love it from the 2 songs i've heard Devour and Sound of Madness.

Submitted by philiptarrant on Wed, 06/25/2008 - 1:49pm.

You probably have Leave a Whisper, it has 45, Burning Bright, and many other amazing songs, still my favorite CD or theirs though i love all of their songs (they were my 2nd fave band at one point) and after Seether's newest and seeing them live, Seether is my 3rd or so favorite, behind Disturbed and Protest the Hero (idk if you'd like them, they're a band with technical guitar work, and mainly singing but some screaming vocals. one of the most imaginative bands i've heard. Any of their songs is good. I recommend Heretics & Killers ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JA8K1PDM5M ) to start out with if you want to see how they are, but also check out Bone Marrow ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzWnI0lOZXI ) which is off their new, more talented, CD if you wanna).

Oh, and i bet you'd love RED, check out Breathe Into Me ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkXPw_lorew ) and Lost ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_THQL0toMDc ).

Submitted by Firesblood on Thu, 06/26/2008 - 9:59am.

YES! Leave A Whisper. Thats the one. .45 was my favorites song on that CD, Burning Bright was awsome too, and I really liked 'Simple Man'. Its been a while since I've listened to them. Need to. Need to listen to Seether too.

Protest the Hero was definately inventive and interesting. The only thing I didn't like about it was I was having a hard time keeping up and my brain was trying to split 4 different ways to try and find some sort of common ground, lol. Still glad for the reccomendation though. LOVED RED! LOVED IT! Thank you! I am currently getting more songs of theirs as I type. I am hungry for more! Any more?

I don't have a working radio anymore, so I never get to hear anything new that comes out. I'm sorely lacking in new music. Thus, the reason I'm so excited to be finding some through your graciousness.

Ha! Knew you'd love RED, my guess is that you would also love Skillet's newest CD, Comatose. Songs i would suggest from it: Falling Into Black ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--j402Bmvxs&feature=related ), Whispers In The Dark ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgiJkrAL9K4&feature=related ) and all of them really.

Oh, you also have to listen to SOiL if you haven't before. Let's see, something good to start off with...

Pride, the first one i heard from them
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cof7TZrjGMA

Black 7 (my current fave)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7ydm7AALNQ

They are off of the 2 best SOiL albums, Scars and Redefine. Their lead singer from those CDs is now with Drowning Pool.

Also, in reference to Protest the Hero, it is alot to take in. Really complex so much so that it seems chaotic, but after you listen for awhile you can hear the true beauty and brilliance of it. It took me awhile to truly appreciate, but they are my second favorite band (no one will ever displace Disturbed) and one of my favorite musically.

Rock is empowerment.

Submitted by Stricken_Mistress on Sun, 06/22/2008 - 12:42am.

I like all kinds of rock music. I think that the first rock song to really mean something to me was definately not as powerful as Disturbed, but, it was what I needed at the time. Aerosmith's Janie's Got A Gun was my empowerment at sixteen after some hard times. Probably the first song to burn itself into me was Warrant, Cherry Pie.

When I listen to truely great music I feel like I can do anything I want with my life and maybe I won't have to be a stay at home mom forever.

Music is an outlet for frustration, an inspiration for life, and a part of everyday life. I'm not sure I can answer how it has changed me. I think that music continues to have a profound effect on me.

Yeah. My parents listened to country, and I still go by what my fifth grade teacher said about rap; Write Rap down, and add a 'C' to the front of it, and you have 'crap', which is exactly what Rap is. -shrug- I've never liked rap. I honestly do not consider it music.
