I used to listen to soft rock. I never had much interest in music other than that, before. Occasionally I'd listen to pop (which I had barely the tolerance for even then), but mostly I listened to the softer stuff like Matchbox 20 or GooGoo Dolls. One morning, I was flipping through radio stations to avoid the dreaded commercial, and I stopped it on the Rock station that I had never paid attention too. Crawling by Linkin Park was on. That song got me listening to Rock music. I listened to that station for hours hoping I could hear that song again, and in the process, discovered so many more songs and styles that I loved.

SOAD's Chop Suey, Disturbed: Down with the Sickness, Liberate, and so many others, Metallica and Korn, Megadeth, etc. It was my beginning; the start of the person that I am today. My 'discovery' molded me.
