Metal on top!
Metal on top!

While I am upset that I am unable to vote(see Fuse.com, WTF for the details) I am glad to see that metal(especially metal as great as Disturbed and Slipknot) is on top, pop fans: kiss my ass. I do hope that Disturbed wins, but, if they don't, I may at least take satisfaction in the fact that metal is on top(as it rightfully should be), but I would really like to see Disturbed on top(I still do like Slipknot, but no band compares to Disturbed). Either way, this is a victory for metalheads everywhere!

I agree with ya man. I really hope at least metal wins. Would really like Disturbed to win (already voted twice), but at the least metal should win.

metal
metal is just one big group, just with different branch offs , but how cares really. its all about the music is it not, finding purpose, relateing to certains song, just enjoy, personally we have a new branch of music theres just no name for it yet!!!.
....
i wouldn't really consider either of them true metal, but they do have talent, along with Linkin Park. the bottom half though....:puke: I voted for secondhand serenade cuz brittney is seriously awful.

all i'm saying is
if you're going to call disturbed and slipknot metal, you'd have to include linkin park, who have many of the same elements in them as disturbed and slipknot. i don't personally give a fuck about genre (what's in a name argument to put it succinctly) but just saying it's not what most people consider "metal."

You got me checking my iTunes Library...
And I see that I have Linkin Park under 'Hard Rock'.
I can't say that I can justify this classification by hard facts. It's rather a feeling I have when hearing the music. I like Linkin Park a lot, don't get me wrong!
I think my choice of genre was because of the songs they have where they use lots of electronics and guitars are less prevalent (Like the songs 'In the End,' 'With You' and 'Breaking the Habit').
Other songs like 'One Step Closer' I would label 'metal'.
But, for example, the song 'Hands Held High' I have no idea where to place. It's more rap. So I even think bands won't let them be put into boxes like this. And Linkin Park is the perfect example, cos you look at the individual songs, you will find different styles.
To let me get back to my previous point: there is a fine line between (a form of) metal and hard rock. Or rather a smudge. I think Linkin Park would be on that line, overstepping in both directions in their individual songs.
But you're right, what's in a name? I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there are ppl who would classify it differently again, as I'm sure others again will have Disturbed under another genre that I do.
All that matters eventually is whether you like the music :)
"Never tell me the odds"
oh yeah, i agree
though i'd say they're all hard rock of some kind, or that's where they intersect at least. though linkin park gets some other genres such as hip-hop thrown in at times. and slipknot gets, idk, metalcore-ish elements thrown in. and disturbed gets grunge-ish stuff thrown in. idk, they all are what they are though, great fuckin bands.

Hear hear! :)
Hear hear! :)
Now back to listening music instead of bullshitting :P

No backtracking
Had we not turned this into the arguement of the day, you would have stuck to your word. This is one thing I have tried to explain before, you should stick to your word and what you think is right, cuz in the end that's all that matters. No one thinks exactly the same way, and one message that all metal sends is to not change yourself to conform to society. Everyone reading this, do me a favor, listen to I'm Alive, "to change myself, I'd rather die" remember these words.
not backtracking
i don't consider disturbed metal, personally, though i have little problem with those who do. i really don't care what's considered what, since genre is just what people use to call similar music, which disturbed and linkin park are, and slipknot borders on in some songs. all three kinda defy typical genre bounds, which are more as a point of reference than anything. genre in all seriousness doesn't even exist except from general consensus, so these gray areas are hardly important. i just thought it a shame to exclude Linkin Park who generally are much more similar to disturbed than slipknot, which is why i started this to begin with. btw, i would define them all as some kinda hard rock, but that's just me, especially disturbed. but they all have some metal influence despite not being what i would consider true metal (e.g. Pantera)

What is 'true' metal?
But what is 'true' metal?
There are so many kinds of music that can be classified as a form of 'metal'. I think partly because metal bands are more creative by nature. They come up with their own sound, so you have a subdivision in a subdivision in a subdivision of a music genre. I can't even keep track of all those genres!
Plus there is this fine line between hard rock and (alternative) metal... I basically like everything close to either end of that line, or farther into the 'metal' genre... but what can be named 'true' metal, I have no clue!
(I do know what it's NOT, so if I wake up tomorrow to find out Britney Spears has quit and Riannah (or what's her name) made a career change, I won't weep. So keep voting for the 'upper half'. Think about that if someone at the bottom of the list wins, that video will be played endlessly. And who needs to hear more of that?? :S)
"Never tell me the odds"
Just what I love about it
The metal genre's creative nature is one of the things that sets it above the rest(which can be VERY easilly catagorized), you can't contain Disturbed and other metal bands within a certain catagory, it just can't be done. The title "metal" just means "rock that has broken away from the pack to make their own hardcore sound". Metal comes in such an immense variaty that it has made almost a whole new definition of music. And, yeah, Disturbed is metal in one of its purest forms.
"We don't want them, we want everything"
"...but the Metal was too strong'"
Yeah, what I'd given to see Disturbed kick Britney Spears' ass!
If Slipknot ends up winning this round, I will definitely vote for them in the next round. I mean, come on, Spears? The next time I have to hear that crap on the radio again...
"Never tell me the odds"
...You'd probably do what I've considered doing
Everyday, I have to ride the bus to school and the driver has a pop station on, and every day Spears', and other similar shit is playing. Make it stop!
"We don't want them, we want everything"
And MTV is hijacked by Coldplay!
That's why I love my iPod :) My day is seriously ruined whenever I forget the thing at home.
Ow and our MTV seems to have been hijacked by Coldplay. Every single time I switch the tv on: Coldplay!
Now I don't hate Coldplay on principle, but come on, how much money do you have to pay to bribe a tv station to get that much airplay?? I've seen Inside The Fire only ONCE! And Metallica twice... Coldplay everywhere, they're making me nuts!
Once I had the sound off and I saw from the corner of my eye the title box say 'Disturb...' and went yessss finally... to turn my attention to the tv and see that it was freakin Riannah or what's her name... No more MTV for me, I've had my share of brainwashing and guess what, it ain't working!
"Never tell me the odds"
well.....
you think you woulda learned that MTV has no place for music on their channel anyway. when they do it's not good music (with the exception of MTV2 after midnight on weekends). i don't watch any of the shit on that channel anymore. u only need ask those who know me how much i hate MTV, i rant about it too much, so i'll refrain from further rantage here ;-)

Now that you mention it...
I think I was talking about another video channel. MTV is the one airing all that sweet 16 crap right?
There is another channel where I live called TMF. Names are a bit confusing, but the latter one actually airs music regularly. Or what they think can pass as 'music' ...

The Debate
I have just finished reading you twos' heated debate over metal and music and everything related, it is great to see how just one thought can cause such a chain reaction as this one. It is definitely interesting how two people who have been brought here by one common interest have such different mindsets, but that's just human diversity at its finest. I thank you for making one blog into such a piece of interest
sincerely, Knightfall
"We don't want them, we want everything"
'Heated'? :P
Haha I won't call it a 'heated' debate. Not even sure if we have such different mindsets. Just a common interest in metal and its derivatives and what can be called what...
But it's nice to chat like this. This is what these blogs are for :)
And I tried it ONCE more: switched TMF on and I get.... Coldplay (but it's 2.35 am here, not exactly prime-time)
May TV rest in peace, I'm done with it.
Now I'm off to bed :)
"Never tell me the odds"
Long ass page!
Look how long this page is! I read it from top to bottom and forgot what I had posted at the top. While I admit that "heated" was a bit extreme, I had to think of something to call it!
"To change myself, I'd rather die"
meh
i've seen alot longer, back when rage and i were on here all the time, some of them got quite interesting and much more off topic than this.
