Mayhem Fest was amazing! I was in the front row for the three bands I wanted to see most Disturbed, Slipknot and 36 Crazyfists. I waited by the Mayhem stage for almost three hours because I want to be as close as possible Disturbed performed. The two bands that were on before Disturbed were Mastodon and Dragonforce. Both were a bore, Mastodon sounded ok, but there was absolutely no communication with the crowd whatsoever. Dragonforce was a bit better, but their singer was a butthead and their equipment kept breaking. Finally it was the moment I'd been waiting for almost three years, time to get ready for Disturbed. 25 minute break between Dragonforce and Disturbed was killing me! Finally, the lights die down and everyone is screaming at the top on their lungs. Then the curtain opens and a bald-headed man is rolled out on stage in a straight jacket and Hannibal Lecter mask. The One and Only Mr. David Draiman! Disturbed open their set with the first song sent to radio from Indestructible, "Perfect Insanity". I sing word for word though the song as I always do. A song or two later David comes over to my side of the stage and points to me. "YES, I GOT NOTICED!!!" So, I go on rocking out singing as loud as I can... About two songs later a banner drops to reveal a Ten Thousand Fists backdrop and "Land of Confusion" begins. I get ready to sing again and David walks back over and points to me again! "Holy crap! Twice in the same concert? This is awesome!!!" We get to the last lines of the song..."This is the world we live in, and these are the name we're given, use them and let’s start showing just where our lives are going to...ah ah ah ah" The lights die down. Then David tells the crowd, "I want to point something out to everyone here, because I've been watching this the entire show. There is a gentleman in the front row in a wheelchair; he rocks harder than everyone here." The crowd starts cheering. He walks over, points to me and says, "I wanna party with him after the show." David looks at me and says, "I'm serious, if you can get behind these barricades though security I want to meet you after the show." At this point I'm so excited that I have tears in my eyes and I'm trembling. Security comes over to me and starts to escort me though the crowd. People are giving me high-fives and congratulating me everywhere as I inch my way through the crowd by flashlight. All the while I'm belting out "Inside the Fire". Megan, Anthony, and Jesse are close behind, and we fallow Security past the equipment ramps and through the curtain to the back-stage area. When we got there we were told to wait until Disturbed finished their set and that they would be meeting us shortly. I ended up downing half a bottle of water because my throat was killing me 'cause I was yelling/singing so loud. When the band finished and got back stage they asked if I enjoyed the show and I told them that it was the best I had ever seen and that this was the second time I'd seen them live. David then introduced himself and I shook his hand then met the rest of the band. I told them that this was a dream come true for me and how much I appreciate their music. I then went on to explain that I've memorized all the lyrics to all of their music. They all thanked me then John Moyer; the bassist asked me my opinion of the new album. I said that I thought it was their best yet, even though The Sickness will always be my favorite album, I love the darkness and intensity of Indestructible. We then took some pictures and the band signed some posters for us, we shook hands and they were on their way to the dressing room. And that’s how the best day of my life went down.
