It's good to be here.

Finally! I was just now able to make an account here. So I'm obviously new and don't know anyone.. but I've been a fan of Disturbed for a long time. I'm only 14, but I've been through some serious crap in my life, and Disturbed has helped me through it. Their lyrics help me to remember that someone else feels the same way, that I'm not alone. And I know I'm not alone in these thoughts.

Sunday Shows

FERRETS! I wish I had one. I watched a show yesterday on them, and they’re just so adorable, especially with their personalities. I think what really got me was their quirkiness, though, and how playful they are. But with every animal that’s made into a pet, there are those crazy pet owners. I didn’t realize just how big owning a ferret really can be. Apparently there’s some thing in Ohio where people go to show them off called Buckeye Bash, and in order to prepare hers, one of the owners used human shampoos for the different colors, you know, the ones for blondes, brunettes and such. (Makes sense, if you actually care about that kind of stuff.) One of the sections on that show was about the death of the ferrets, and the single point I thought was kind of weird was that another owner has a deep-freezer where she collects the dead animals (including those of her friends) until there are like 25 or so, where she’ll then take them to the crematory because apparently it’s cheaper to pay per the pound or something. The really weird thing is that when she gets back, she says that they’ll divide up the ashes by teaspoons with the other owners. (“Oh marvelous! Now, would you like one lump or two with your tea, dear? No tea?! Then perhaps you would rather enjoy some cremated weasel?”) It’s not like they ate (or drank) them or anything, but I just thought that was a little extreme and kind of laughable. Ahhh, the crazy things we people do for our pets…
But anyway, picture this: you look away from the idiot box (a.k.a. the TV) and you look back again. What do you see? Not a Beatles shirt, not an AC/DC shirt, not even a Metallica shirt, but a shirt sporting the one band that keeps your world spinning: DISTURBED! With the camera zoomed into it and a ferret in front of Ten Thousand Fists, I’m so lame that I froze the screen and took a picture of it. I got really excited because, come on, what are the chances of that happening? Yeah, I feel like I SHOULD get punched for that : )
Since the weekends are apparently a good time to just chill, I also watched another show on a series called Independent Lens (there’s another good one called P.O.V.) on the PBS channel. Basically, it’s a documentary show, and as you may have guessed, I adore crap like that. This episode was on a deaf college girl and what it was like for her to try and interact with people, especially with large audiences. Her love of poetry takes her to this slam poetry club, (which is something I would LOVE to go to), called Urban Word, where she performs one of her poems through sign language. Of course, no one could really understand her because she wanted to perform it solely without an interpreter. She didn’t win the contest that was going on simply because people didn’t understand, but a while later this other Palestinian chick talks to her and tells her how much she liked it, even though she could understand it. They end up working together for months to create a poem together about the bond they form, despite the cultural differences of the first girl being deaf and Jewish, and the other one being Muslim and hearing. It was really beautiful how the one signed it while the other more or less rapped it, coming together at some points with both sign and word. The passion and honesty that they used to convey that unity they had formed through their differences and feelings of alienation really…well, you might say it ‘spoke’ to me. There was a part where the deaf girl writes that she wishes the meaning in the dictionary of ‘deaf’ would be changed from “can’t hear” to “won’t hear”. It was awesome, because I completely understand what she’s saying.
There was also a documentary with an episode where a mother from Bolivia sneaks into America in order to work and save money for her daughter’s healthcare. Apparently the daughter was hit by a bus and became paralyzed, so obviously she needed certain medical attention, and because Bolivia is the poorest country in South America, money’s a hard thing to come by. (Definitely could relate to that feeling.) One thing the mother had to contend with, of course, besides being away from all her family for 6 years, was the immigrant laws here in America. Since her daughter was turning 15, and she had already missed so much of her childhood, the mother decided to go home for her birthday, knowing that she couldn’t come back to the U.S. It was so painful to watch her go through working and missing so much, and then when she got home the money that she had saved just didn’t last. But of course, “The problem is always there,” and her daughter still needed surgery and therapy. Turns out she also had a broken hip that only happened because her chiropractor was careless, and denied even having anything to do with this injury. There was just no end to the sadness and impoverishment, although there were a couple people who tried to ease things for them. All she wanted was to be a good mother, and she couldn’t see that she WAS being one, just by trying to make a decent life for her daughter. Of course, there was also that realization by yet another person just how much the “American Dream” really isn’t what it’s cracked up to be, especially for those who long and strive for it the most.
Oh yeah, and the OTHER movie I watched (yeah, I felt beyond EXTREMEMLY lazy), was “Sorority Boys”. Hey, it was on, and I had nothing to do. I won’t go into great detail about it, but it’s a comedy about these 3 frat guys that wind up pretending to be women and living in a sorority filled with depressed, out-cast chicks. In the end they realize that those girls actually go through a lot of ridicule, and that they actually used to be those people that made those girls’ lives miserable.
But yeah, so I guess I learned a few things from my media junkie day. 1) There are quite a number of good documentaries that play on Sunday here. 2.) I am a loser and WATCH those documentaries. 3.) You never realize how many hours there are in a day until you spend them all larding around the house. 4.) Ferrets and Disturbed… I gotta get me a ferret. (Always wanted one anyway.) 5.) I am reminded of how frustrating and emotional language barriers can be, and 6.) Dressing and acting like a chick can make you realize just how much of a dick you really are.
I’ve long-before decided that I have to learn some different, (notice how I didn’t say ‘foreign’), language, at some point in my life. And I want to be able to speak it with honesty, which doesn’t necessarily mean fluently: just in a way that I can relate other groups of people who might not feel like they can relate to me. But then again, we already have so many different languages that everyone is taught, don’t we? Math, nature….emotions, actions! And music, of course, NO ONE can ever forget about that one, and I think most of you will agree that we won’t ever let that happen. If I believed in God, I would thank Him for such a wonderful group of guys like Disturbed. So instead, if you could please raise your devil horns in the sky for just a moment to honor those few things, and people, that bring all kinds of different things together, (like being lazy on cold, rainy Sundays), that would be fantastic.
(Haha! Screw the ‘Almighty Lord’ and his Sundays, we can have devil horns ANY time we damn well choose to!)
Hope you had a wicked-sweet weekend, my brothers and sisters, now have an even better week! Love y’all! \m/

upcoming tours

I am a huge fan, and have never been to a rock concert. I would love more than anything to attend one of your concerts, but I noticed you don't have any upcoming tours. I live near Birmingham Alabam, and was wondering when the band would be coming here?????
